What community is your group from and how can I get there?
Most of our group are from Burlington. To get here, leave the Trans Canada Highway (TCH) and travel down the Dorset Trail
for about 50km. Then turn right, onto Burlington Road, and travel for another 23 km, and you’re here! To enlarge the
map, just click on it.
What’s the name of the church you meet in?
The name of the church we meet at is called Faith Pentecostal Assembly. After entering Burlington, take the first turn,
and it’s the second driveway on the right.
Do I have to be a Pentecostal to attend your group?
Even though the church we attend is a Pentecostal Church, we do not believe in the barriers of denomination. We have more
than one denomination represented in our group already, and we’ll welcome anyone, regardless of their religious background.
When do you meet?
We meet every Thursday night at 7:30pm. Sometimes, we have prayer meeting downstairs in the church basement starting at
7:00. Every week before a service, the worship team meets for about an hour or so for a quick practice.
What’s the name of your worship band?
Well, technically, right now our worship band does not have a name. Although, they do recognize the need for one, and have
graciously accepted suggestions. But sadly, all the good ones were already taken, and certain members of the worship team
didn’t agree on "Scott and the Blowfish."
What’s the name of your drama team?
The name of our drama team is "Higher Realm." The name "Higher Realm" was conceived out of the mind of team member Danielle
Newbury. Danielle says that "Higher Realm" means that we want to go higher, that we won’t settle for what we have now,
we want something better. She also presented the portion of scripture from Ephesians 2:6-7: And God raised us up with Christ
and seated us with him in heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable
riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
Can I join your group?
We don’t offer membership to the people in our group. You’ve joined, if you attend, and participate. Although,
there are a couple of restrictions, the main one being age.
Who’s on your executive?
Our executive is voted on every couple of years, by the people of our church. The people of the church nominate someone
they feel would be good for the job. Then, if that person accepts the nomination, a meeting is held to vote on the president, vice-president, secretary, and member at large.
Who’s on your worship team?
We have people from our group who make up the worship team. The team is mostly fronted by Scott Newbury who plays acoustic guitar and vocals. We also have two background vocalists (1, 2), a bass player, three electric guitar players (1, 2, 3), one solely acoustic guitar player, drummer, and percussionist.
Who’s on you drama team?
Right now, our drama team consists of nine actors, one technical advisor, and one leader. The leader is Joan Lush. We hope that as time goes by, we’ll add more and more to our drama team, as many have shown interest since we’ve
started.
What is a regular service for your group like?
When we meet for a service, we never know what to expect. We don’t like to stick to agendas that much, we’d
rather sit back and allow God to work in us. We usually have a time of worship with the band, and sometimes we may have a
speaker come in to share what’s on their heart, but other times we just kinda go with the flow, and not try to keep
things too routine. Our services are focused directly on God, and he’s the one we want to worship, and he’s the
one who’s in control of any of our services.
Do you have services every week?
No. There are weeks we have other things planned besides a service. It’s not that we don’t want to get away
from worshiping God, but sometimes we decide to worship him in other ways. Some weeks we have fellowship at other people’s
houses, or do things such as bowling, bar b ques, movie nights, skating, etc.
How many people are in your group?
Really, it’s hard to say because usually the numbers change every week, but if we had to guess, we’d say there’s
between 35-40 who attend regularly.
How old do I have to be to attend your group?
The age limit to attend any social events such as movie nights, bar b ques, skating, bowling, etc. is twelve years old.
You are not allowed to attend anything of this nature until you have passed your twelfth birthday. If you would like us to
consider making an exception, let us know before hand, and we’ll deal with these situations on a case to case basis.
We allow anyone to attend our service, regardless of the age. Although most people wait until they've reached twelve
to attend the services as well, we allow people of all ages to come.
Do you turn anyone away from attending your services?
Although we’re pretty strict on the age limit for social events, we are very loose on the age limit for our services.
We don’t believe in turning anyone away from worshiping God. No matter what your age, you’re welcome at any of
our services.
What are your policies for attending YC Newfoundland or Youth Breakaway?
YC Newfoundland:
1. You must attend our group regularly, unless you are from a different community, and would just like to register with
our group, in which case a whole new set of policies kick in.
2. You must participate in fundraisers, unless you have a legitimate reason not to.
3. You must pay your own registration, and any other costs our group puts in place. Fundraisers are meant to reduce the
financial strain on you, but sometimes we’re unable to cover all costs required, in which case you will be approached
to contribute.
4. You must have signed permission from your parents, which is usually presented with your registration money
5. You must abide by rules set by the executive and the parents in a meeting which takes place a couple of days before
departure for YC. The youth can also attend this meeting and voice their opinion
Youth Breakaway
In our group, we’re mainly promoters of YC, rather than Youth Breakaway. Although, we do have some youth attending
some years. If you want to attend YB 1 or 2, you can register under our group, but you attend on your own merits. Our group
does no fundraising, provides no chaperones, and no transportation. It’s your job to pay your own expenses, find your
own chaperone, and your own transportation. Although, our group will help you out some, if you need it.
What is "The Fridge?"
The fridge is an online journal, which is written in by members of our group. This could be some thoughts which are on
their minds, or just a shout out and a word of encouragement to everyone out there. If anyone in our group has something to
say, it’ll be posted on the Fridge.
